Ms. Sunny Paulk is an award-winning graphic designer and artist born and raised in Montgomery, Alabama. She was previously employed by the Alabama Shakespeare Festival’s scenic art department and is currently employed as an in-house graphic designer at Southern Poverty Law Center, a non-profit civil rights law firm. Some of her outdoor murals in downtown Montgomery have been featured in The New York Times, CNN, NBC, NPR.org and others.
Her current series, titled, “I Am Still,” examines how women of all ages, races and backgrounds find strength and truth within themselves while navigating in an unjust world. They come together in a powerful and unifying voice showing that beauty, strength and power live inside all women—the givers and nurturers of life itself. She painted this series as a response to the hopelessness and discouragement she and others felt in reaction to men, including the President, continuing to disrespect, degrade and demean women with absolutely no consequence. Her feeling of, “what’s the point?” suddenly became the inspiration itself.
She hopes that through her art she can facilitate unique, complex and thought-provoking stories of humans as individuals and as a part of something bigger. Her belief is we only grow in empathy and connectivity if we take the time to listen to others.
Sunny Paulk's Opening Reception graciously sponsored by the Dwayne Farrior Agency - Farmers Insurance.
